F-16N, Tamiya 1/48 (\"pl\" English) Print E-mail

Aggressively painted aggressor

In mid-eighties, US Navy decided to purchase Viper variant based on standard F-16C Block 30.  This model depicts one of them, stationed in Miramar.  It was built using TwoBobs decals (#48-038, "Old School Adversarys") in camo used during its' service.  The original was repainted after it was moved to the museum in San Diego and currently its' camo is unfortunately much different.

Since it's one of the few Vipers using GE engine and small inlet, it would be ideal to use Tamiya's "Agressor/Adversary" set.  Unfortunately I started building it before that set was released and ended up using "Block 25/32" set, with spare engine from "Block 50".

As you can imagine, majority of the build process was spent on masking.  I started with copying TwoBobs instructions and enlarging them to the point when they matched 99.9% of model's size.  After that, I cut the paper masks out of the copies and then cut their "equivalents" from Tamiya tape.  In some cases, unfortunately I had to improvise - this was because mainly of the problems arising from transfering flat images onto the 3D shape, but in some cases it was because TwoBobs instructions didn't quite matched from picture to picture.

Light color was mixed (IIRC) using XF-14 i XF-2, and dark green is a lightened XF-27.

The build process itself was absolutely painless.
